I can help families:

  • Understand school evaluations and reports
  • Understand state and federal laws pertaining to special education
  • Navigate the services and resources available through the school system
  • Plan for upcoming meetings
  • Attend school meetings to support and advise families in the educational plan for their child

Next Steps include:

  • Review of Records: child’s evaluations, report cards, assessments, developmental history, current/past IEPs or  Section 504 Plans
  • Assist with procedural navigation
  • Help parents prepare for IEP or Section 504 meetings by proposing measurable goals and objectives and  determining appropriate accommodations and special education related services to meet their child’s needs
  • Act as a special education advocate in meetings between parents and the school district
  • Attend ARD, Section 504, IFSP and other educationally related meetings to discuss program goals with IEP or  Section 504 Teams, when  needed
  • Help obtain requests for independent evaluations
  • Consult on legal options, procedures and resources regarding due process hearings and manifestation  determination hearings
